Frenectomies for Infants, Kids and Teens

Improving Comfort, Feeding, Speech and Smiles

Frenectomy

What Is a Frenectomy?

A frenectomy is a quick, in-office procedure that treats a tight piece of tissue under the tongue or lip.

When that tissue is too short or thick, it can make it harder for kids to eat, speak, or even breathe comfortably. You might hear it called a tongue-tie or lip-tie.

The procedure gently releases the tissue, helping your child move their tongue or lip more freely, often with immediate improvement.

When Is a Frenectomy Recommended?

We may recommend a frenectomy if your child has:

  • Difficulty with nursing or bottle feeding
  • Problems latching or staying latched
  • Delays in speech or trouble with specific sounds
  • A gap between the upper front teeth
  • Tension or restriction under the tongue or upper lip

These issues can affect infants, kids, or even teens. Whether your child is just starting out or still growing, we’re here to help you figure out what’s best.
