The Way to Soothe Sore Teeth When You Have Braces

Posted .

To help you have the most comfortable and successful orthodontic experience possible, Dr. Casey Johnson and our All Kids Dental Pediatrics & Orthodontics team have some tips for you.

Oftentimes, soreness and discomfort occurs after a tightening appointment with your orthodontist. However, there are ways you can soothe that soreness and relieve that discomfort, and our team is happy to help you do so! We recommend doing the following things:

-Rinse your mouth with warm water.

-Only eat soft foods for the first few days after your tightening appointment. If you eat harder foods, it will only make the discomfort worse.

-Take pain medication as needed. Feel free to take Tylenol or Advil—just make sure to follow the instructions on the bottle.

-Try to use your teeth as much as possible by chewing frequently. Chewing will help your teeth feel better faster.

-If your pain has not subsided after three days, it’s best to call our office and schedule an appointment with your orthodontist.

If you do these things, your smile will recover quicker and your teeth will return to their normal strength in no time!
