For some children, Dr. Paul Allen, Dr. Megan Rohman, and Dr. Hannah Frebel may recommend nitrous oxide in Glenwood Springs, Rifle, and Eagle, Colorado, to relax them for their dental treatment. Nitrous oxide, which is also known as laughing gas, is administered through a small breathing mask. This gas is a blend of two gases: oxygen and nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide helps the patient relax without putting him or her to sleep. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recognizes nitrous oxide sedation as a very safe, effective technique to aid in meeting children’s dental needs. The gas is mild and easily administered. With normal breathing, it is quickly eliminated from the body after treatment. Nitrous oxide is not addictive. While under nitrous oxide sedation, your child will remain fully conscious and keep all natural reflexes.
